Saskatchewan License to Practice

Agency:Saskatchewan Association of Architects (SAA)

Ownership Requirements:

Corporations

  • One of the directors must be a member of the association
  • The control of the corporation shall be vested in registered members of the association and without limiting the generality of the foregoing, at least 51% of voting shares of the corporation shall be beneficially and absolutely held by registered members of the association and at least one corporate director

Partnerships

  • The majority of principals and directors must be registered as members of the association

Partnership of Corporations

  • One of the directors must be a member of the association
  • The control of the corporations shall be vested in registered members of the association and without limiting the generality of the foregoing, at least 51% of voting shares of the corporation shall be beneficially and absolutely held by registered members of the association and at least one corporate director

Sole Proprietorships

  • The majority of principals must be registered as members of the association
Insurance Requirements:

Liability Insurance in an amount not less than $250,000 for any one occurrence

Notes:
  • The name of an architectural corporation or firm shall not be worded in such a manner that it might mislead the public
  • Any firm or corporation carrying on the practice of Architecture in the Province shall display on any letterhead the name or names of all members who are shareholders of the firm or corporation. 
  • Non-members names displayed on the letterhead shall identify their qualifications.

Qualifying Individual Requirements:

The practice of architecture is to be conducted under the supervision of a registered member or members of the Association who is or are employed by the corporation and who individually assume the function of and are responsible as registered members for architectural services performed, notwithstanding their employment with the corporation.

    • ($315 CAD application fee + $446.25 CAD annual fee)
  • A $37.50 USD multiple office fee also applies for each additional Saskatchewan office

Required Attachments:
  • Certificate of Liability Insurance Declaration
  • Current sample of the firm's letterhead and business cards (no photocopies)
  • Confirmation of the name search request filed with the Saskatchewan Corporate Registry Profile Report issued by the Saskatchewan Information Services Corporation confirming business/corporation registration has been received by the SAA
