Nova Scotia Architecture Corporate Permit

Eligible Entity Types:

Ownership Requirements:

Business Corporations:

  • The majority of issued voting shares must be owned by one or more individuals who hold (or are currently applying for) Licensed Architect Membership with the Nova Scotia Association of Architects
  • The majority of officers and directors must be individuals who hold (or are currently applying for) Licensed Architect Membership with the Nova Scotia Association of Architects

Partnerships:

  • All partners must be individuals who hold (or are currently applying for) Licensed Architect Membership with the Nova Scotia Association of Architects or individuals who hold Professional Engineer membership in good standing with Engineers Nova Scotia

Partnership of Corporations:

  • All corporate partners must be wholly owned by individuals who hold (or are currently applying for) Licensed Architect Membership with the Nova Scotia Association of Architects
  • Each corporate partner must be registered with the Nova Scotia Registry of Joint Stock Companies

Sole Proprietorships:

  • The sole owner of the business must be (or currently applying for) a Licensed Architect Membership with the Nova Scotia Association of Architects
Insurance Requirements:

Professional Liability Insurance in amounts not less than $250,000 per claim and $500,000 aggregate

Qualifying Individual Requirements:

Architects who will carry on the practice of architecture for or on behalf of the business in Nova Scotia must be licensed under the Nova Scotia Architects Act.

  • Certificate of Status or confirmation of registration with the Nova Scotia Registry of Joint Stock Companies (or if incorporated in a jurisdiction outside of Nova Scotia, confirmation of registration with that jurisdiction)

Architect intern enrollment does not need to be renewed and only expires when:

  • The Council strikes the individual’s name from the register under
    Section 18 of the Act for non-payment of fees;
  • The individual resigns from the Association under clause 17(b) of
    the Act;
  • The individual obtains a license as a licensed architect;
  • The end of 10 years from the date the individual was first admitted as an intern architect, or a longer period as determined by Council; or
  • The individual no longer meets the requirements for membership as
    an intern architect.
