Nevada Contractor's License

Financial Requirements:

  • For licenses with monetary limits of $10,000 or less, a current financial statement is required.
  • For licenses with monetary limits of at least $10,000 but less than $50,000, a compiled financial statement prepared by an independent certified public accountant current within 6 months or a financial statement reviewed or audited by an independent certified public accountant, current within one year is required.
  • For licenses with monetary limits of at least $50,000 but less than $250,000, a compiled financial statement with full disclosures, prepared by an independent certified public accountant, current within 6 months or a financial statement reviewed or audited by an independent certified public accountant, current within one year.
  • For licenses with monetary limits of at least $250,000, a financial statement that is prepared and reviewed or audited by an independent certified public accountant, current within one year and a bank verification form are required.
Insurance Requirements:

All contractors are required to provide proof of workers' compensation insurance as a condition of licensure.

Bond Requirements:

The Board determines the amount of the bond at the time of license approval. The bond can vary in amount from $1,000 to $500,000 based on the type of license, monetary limit, past, present or future financial responsibility, experience, and character of the applicant.

  • Residential Contractors providing Qualified Services are required to pay a residential recovery fund assessment fee based on the monetary limits placed on the license:
    • For monetary limits up to $1,000,000: $200.00
    • For monetary limits over $1,000,000 but limited: $500.00
    • For unlimited licenses: $1,000.00

All exams must be passed within 6 months of the application receipt date.

Notes:

Waivers for the state-specific trade examinations and experience certification process can be granted for applicants who are licensed in states determined by Nevada to have substantially equivalent requirements. If the endorsing state does not offer an equivalent trade exam, applicants will be required to pass the state-specific exam. See the State License Equivalency Chart to determine eligibility. The qualifying individual will still be required to pass the Nevada Business and Law examination. All exams must be passed within 6 months of the application receipt date.

To qualify an applicant must:

  • Hold an active license in the endorsing state, with the same qualified individual, for at least the past 4 years
  • Not been investigated for misconduct as a contractor or had a license revoked modified, limited, suspended, or otherwise disciplined in any state or jurisdiction where an applicant is or was licensed
  • Have no pending disciplinary actions or proceedings pending in any state or jurisdiction where an applicant is or was licensed

Licensees must notify the board within 10 days after a qualified individual or qualified employee leaves their business. The qualifying individual must be replaced within 30 days after a qualified individual or qualified employee leaves their business.

All exams must be passed within 6 months of the application receipt date.

    • 4 Certification of Work Experience Forms for each trade qualifier
    • A current Master's Certification issued by a governmental agency or its officially recognized agent in a discipline substantially similar to the requested classification
    • Proof of transferable military experience and training
    • Proof of eligibility for Licensure by Endorsement
  • Resume of Experience Form
  • A valid Driver's License or Government Issued Photo ID
